Living on a dairy farm, it was only a matter of time before we decided that having our own family milk cow was a brilliant idea!  We decided that we would purchase a heifer (young female) calf so that we could eventually produce our own milk and share homegrown milk with others.  With the help of our friend, Mr. Beiler, we located a lovely crossbred calf and brought her home just before Christmas.  We were so surprised and happy when the Beiler's decided to gift her to our family!  She was two weeks old when we brought her home and she was adorable!  Her hair was brown and she has white on her belly and a small star on her face.  The kids named her Cocoa because she resembled an upside-down cup of hot chocolate.  As she has grown, her hair has turned a beautiful black.  She will be bred in the early summer of 2019 and will calve around 9 months later.  She is a lovely girl, enjoys eating - a lot, tolerates being brushed and handled, and is learning how to carry Hannah on her back (stay tuned to see how that adventure turns out).  While she doesn't come across as super snuggly, she is like one of those people who put up a wall but are really friendly once you get to know them.  She is a doll and she's beautiful.  If her milk tastes anything like she looks, we are going to be in for a treat!
