For several months, Chris and I have been searching for a board of directors for the horse ministry. We have prayed, read the Word, sought counsel, and invited a few people. In order for Risen Ridge to become a non-profit organization, a board of directors needs to be in place. For now, we are going to call it a “developmental board”. We need a group of people who share the vision God has given us and the passion to help make it happen, to walk with us through the legalities of starting a ministry. We have retained the services of the accountant who has worked with Crystal Peaks since their inception. She has been a wonderful help and guide for us in this process and we are happy to be able to continue working with her. Recently, Chris had a vision of a screen door in front of him. In his vision, he stepped through that door. The vision of a door has happened one other time and was very specific. Two weeks before the closing of our old house, the Lord spoke to Chris saying a door would open for us in three days (perfect timing because we had nowhere to go at that point). Three days after that vision, we got a text connecting us with the owners of the amazing house we have been renting for the past year and a half. With this recent vision, there were no specifics as far as time, however, we feel strongly that God is moving. We realized that we may have been holding back the development of our board of directors by waiting for God to speak to us about whom to ask. What if He is speaking to you? Maybe God needs to speak to your heart and encourage you to step into something new. With that being said, Chris and I, on behalf of the horse ministry God has placed on our hearts, are asking you to prayerfully consider becoming a member of our first board of directors. The time commitment is going to be minimal at this point as we don’t have a ministry to actually run yet. Prayerfully, this will be changing sooner rather than later, but that is in His time, not ours. However, I anticipate a few meetings to comb through the legal paperwork, setting up bylaws for the ministry, to update the board with any developments, to pray together over the ministry, and to discern how God is moving us towards it. If God has been speaking to you about this ministry and you feel led to be on the board of directors, please let us know! This invitation is open to those near and far, we can always Skype the meetings! We will pray along with you and go where God leads. We have been beyond blessed with the support we have received thus far. If you want to be part of the ministry but don’t feel like you are being led to be on the board, our meetings will be open to all and I hope that you can come. This is God’s ministry and we are God’s people so any input that God has placed on your heart is more than welcome! We know that He has already chosen people to come along side of us with this endeavor and we can’t wait to see how He makes this all work.

And now for general updates…
First and foremost, I have not made the official
announcement on our blog---we are expecting!!! Baby is due on my 42nd birthday, February 17th. The only reason I point out my age in this comment is that I am never going to have to celebrate my birthday again! It will now belong to our new little bundle and I will perpetually be 41 years old
Chris’s job is going very well. He has transitioned out of shadowing people and is beginning to compile job descriptions for each volunteer position, he is offering and leading at least four volunteer orientations per month, he has started work on a volunteer manual, and he is beginning to speak at partnering churches about Love Inc and the need for volunteers. He is being stretched, but he is enjoying the growth. We are holding monthly meetings with the Ministry Support Team (MST) that Chris had to gather prior to starting his internship with Virginia Mennonite Missions. It has been such a blessing to be surrounded by people who genuinely care for your spiritual development. Even down to little things that weigh heavy on our hearts and minds. It is a wonderful group of people and we are very thankful that God brought the group together.
We have our first rescue animal! He is a 6 or 7 month old Holstein bull calf that I named Wilbur in the hopes that he will go from the runty little guy he started out as to a fantastic specimen of a cow (just like Wilbur from Charlotte’s Web). Wilbur is going to get his own page, so I won’t go into the details right now other than to say that he needs our love and prayers for strength and complete healing. I have been keeping my facebook friends updated and I’m so thankful for his already loyal following! One aspect of the ministry that Chris and I feel is vital, is that of rescuing horses. Their stories can speak to people in ways that human words fail. My prayer is that Wilbur's story will be able to that very thing for a soul who needs to hear it one day.
Thank you all for being on this journey with us! Please pray for discernment as people come forward to be on our board of directors, for continued health for the baby, that God will continue to connect us to people who share the same vision, and finally, pray for our little calf, Wilbur, that he may gain the strength to stand and walk around.
