Ministry news - Reflecting on 2018 and looking forward in 2019

2018 was a great year for Risen Ridge Ministry!

While it may appear that not much was going on, we have been building a strong foundation.

  • After much prayer, we have an established board of directors.

  • This enabled us to finalize our nonprofit paperwork with the accountant.

  • Part of becoming a nonprofit requires that you become incorporated in your state. After several back and forth communications, mostly in writing as they require, we were able to, officially, become a recognized corporation in the state of Virginia on August 17, 2018 with our amendments being finalized on December 3, 2018. – It was a long process!

  • We have a team of about 15 people ready to grow, learn, and walk with us who meet with us on a regular basis

  • Risen Ridge Ministry held several “team” meetings

  • The meetings were sort of brainstorming with God sessions. They were awesome and very productive. Through them we established:

  • The Mission Statement

  • Providing a sanctuary, in God’s creation, to foster new life.

  • The Vision

  • To construct a Christ-centered environment in a farm setting which allows individuals or groups to connect with God through His creation. Our hope is that the environment will generate experiences that are spirit-filled and lead to self-discovery that deepens their relationship with our Lord and Savior.

  • The Values

  • Love, hope, excellence, rest, and restoration

  • The website was changed to include the mission, vision, and values, as well as to provide a concise story to capture the attention and create interest with the readers

  • God has shared a vision of what Risen Ridge Ministry will be for the community and it is much more than just a horse ministry!

  • Despite not having a location, God has encouraged us through His people and through our own hearts to keep moving forward with RRM for His Kingdom. We are using this time to build a strong foundation for the future!

  • Prayer – a designated prayer team from Love INC calls us weekly to see how we’re doing and ask for any prayer requests. They are keeping RRM covered in prayer. We are so thankful!

Looking forward in 2019…

  • RRM will hold monthly board meetings as well as monthly team meetings

  • Teambuilding

  • We desire to be a ministry that serves so we are actively looking for venues that we can serve together as a team

  • For example, a community-wide class, called the Alpha class, is being held at our home church for 11 weeks. Each time they meet, they share a meal together. RRM, as a team, will be providing one of the meals for the class.

  • Training

  • We are planning a visit to a similar ministry in Farmville, VA, in May, where we will volunteer, share a meal, and learn what a “real” horse ministry looks like

  • We are hoping to attend a similar ministry clinic in NC in September (This clinic will be an abbreviated version of the clinic that Chris and I attended in Oregon in 2017. We are very excited about this clinic!)

  • We may have the opportunity to do hands-on round-pen work with one of our team members (at her farm with her horses)

  • Marketing

  • A few of our team members are in the process of designing a logo and branding for RRM

  • We are hoping to start sharing the vision of the ministry as the opportunities arise.

  • There is going to be a Horse Fair at Expoland in November, we could set up an information booth there

  • Prayer Requests

  • Chris and Jen appreciate your prayers for financial provision, discernment, and peace in God’s timing

  • Location – RRM needs a physical home. Once we have a farm, we can begin to acquire horses, more hands-on training, and be well on our way to serving God in our community.

  • Open doors and open hearts in the community to share the vision of Risen Ridge Ministry.

  • That God would give us the words to open the hearts of His people as opportunities present themselves to share.
